我が家では”ナイト”と呼んでいる、家族で楽しむお楽しみの夜があります。
普段は20:30にはベッドに入って、消灯。おやつの時間にも食事の時間にも、子どもたちはジュースを飲みません。晩ごはん中にテレビを見ることはなく、家族で会話を楽しむスタイルです。
ですが！ナイトの日は特別です。
子どもたちはジュース、主人はビール、わたしも好きなドリンク（最近アルコールは飲まなくなりました）で乾杯し、ナイト開始です。
いつナイトをするの？
ナイトをする条件は、次の日、みんながお休みということです。
我が家では、金曜日と土曜日がナイトの日になることが多いです。
ナイトのきっかけ
ナイトを始めるきっかけとなったのは、アメリカで長男が通っていた小学校のPTO（日本のPTAと似てます）のイベントです。PTOが主催の、家族で参加できる夜のイベントがたくさんあって、我が家も楽しくそれに参加していました。
例：
- ゲームナイト。夜の学校にみんなで集まって、事前注文したピザやポップコーン、スイーツを食べながらビンゴを楽しみます。賞品まであります。アメリカの方ってほんとに楽しむことが上手だな〜と感じました。
- スケートナイト。PTOが近くのスケートリンクを貸切ってくれます。参加したい家族は直接そこに行ってスケートを楽しむことができます。
良い刺激を受けて、我が家でも数年かけて、たくさんの種類のナイトを考案してきました。
おでかけ編
ミュージアムナイト
博物館や美術館。ナイトミュージアムを開催してる場所を探して、特別な夜を満喫しませんか？ネットで「住んでいるエリア ナイトミュージアム」で検索してみてください。
外食ナイト
たまには外食してリフレッシュ！
カラオケ＆ダンスナイト
アメリカではカラオケセットを準備して自宅で歌っていました。帰国後の家は、お隣さんと近いので、自宅でのカラオケはしていません。カラオケの締めに、このシリーズのダンスをみんなで踊ってました。ダンスだけなら近所迷惑にならずに楽しめそうですね。
おうち編
ムービーナイト
ごはんを食べながら映画を見ます。Amazon PrimeやTUSTAYAのレンタルを活用してます。
思い出ナイト
ケータイで撮りためた子どもたちの動画を見ます。久しぶりに見る、子どもたちの小さい頃の姿はとても可愛いですよね。子どもたちも、自分たちがどんなに愛されて育ったか実感できると思います。
ゲームナイト
Nintendo Switchで遊びます。子どもたちに人気があるナイトはやはりコレです。３歳の娘はまだゲームが難しいので、わたしと一緒にコントローラーを操作します。
ボードゲームナイト
すごろくやドンジャラなど、ボードゲームで遊びます。
クラフトナイト
手作りを楽しむナイトです。娘のための絵本やアイロンビーズを作ったりします。
ナイトの日は２１時（３歳の娘とわたしは20:30）まで楽しんで、それから歯磨きして寝ることになってます。

Want to Add More Fun to Your Family Night?
In our family, we have a special evening tradition that we call “Night”.
On regular nights, the kids are in bed by 8:30 PM with the lights off. They don’t drink juice during meals or snack time, and we don’t watch TV during dinner, instead enjoying family conversation.
But on “Night” days, things are different!
The kids get to drink juice, my husband enjoys a beer, and I sip on my favorite drink (I’ve stopped drinking alcohol recently). We start with a toast, and then our special evening begins.
When Do We Have “Night”?
We only do it when everyone has the next day off, which means Friday and Saturday nights are the most common in our house.
How “Night” Started
The idea came from my eldest son’s elementary school in the U.S., where the PTO (similar to Japan’s PTA) hosted many family-friendly evening events. We had a great time participating in them!
Examples:
- Game Night: Families gathered at school to play bingo while enjoying pre-ordered pizza, popcorn, and sweets. There were even prizes! I was impressed by how great Americans are at having fun.
- Skate Night: The PTO rented out a local skating rink, and families could go there directly to enjoy skating.
Inspired by these experiences, we started creating our own “Nights” at home over the years.
Going-Out Edition
Museum Night
Visit museums or art galleries that hold nighttime events for a special experience! Try searching “Night Museum” + your city online.
Dining Out Night
Treat yourself to a nice dinner at a restaurant and refresh your routine!
Karaoke & Dance Night
When we lived in the U.S., we had a home karaoke setup. But after moving back to Japan, with neighbors living close by, we stopped doing karaoke at home. We wrap up the night with a dance session using the YouTube series below.
At-Home Edition
Movie Night
We watch movies while eating dinner, using Amazon Prime or Tsutaya rentals.
Memory Night
We watch old videos of the kids taken on our phones. Seeing their younger selves is so heartwarming! I think it also reminds them of how much they are loved.
Game Night
We play Nintendo Switch together. This is always a hit with the kids! Since my 3-year-old daughter still finds games difficult, I help her with the controller.
Board Game Night
We enjoy board games like sugoroku (Japanese board games) or Donjara.
Craft Night
A night dedicated to creative activities! We make picture books for my daughter or create iron bead crafts.
On “Night” days, we have fun until 9:00 PM (8:30 PM for my daughter and me), then brush our teeth and go to bed.
